AdBlue^®, also known as Aus32 and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), neutralises the harmful nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. Using AdBlue^® so will drastically reduce your carbon footprint and therefore contribute towards the ongoing environmental efforts.

As of 2006, it became the law that all vehicles above 7.5 tonnes are manufactured with this technology.

What is AdBlue^®?

AdBlue^® is an ‘after-treatment’ diesel exhaust fluid. It’s sprayed onto exhaust fumes as they are being expelled from the vehicle to reduce harmful Nitrogen oxide emissions.

It is stored in a separate storage tank away from the fuel itself, so you should ensure you’re not putting it into the diesel fuel tank, because doing so could harm your engine. If you do accidentally put it directly into your fuel tank, do not try and start your vehicle. Call a recovery service with experience in pumping out fuel tanks to prevent any damage to your vehicle.

What is AdBlue^® made of?

Urea is the ‘active ingredient’ in AdBlue^®, meaning it was originally manufactured from pig urine. More recently, a synthetic version is used, but it is the ammonia of the urea which provides the environmental benefits. The new synthetic version is colourless, non-toxic and is not actually blue at all.

How does it reduce harmful emissions?

A process called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) eliminates the harmful nitrogen oxides, which are a major contributor to global warming. This is done by breaking them down into water and nitrogen, which are harmless to the environment and therefore significantly reduces the environmental impact of your diesel engine‘s exhaust emissions.
